I have just discovered an organic method for KILLING chicken mites!!!!! My coop was infested and I didn't want to use sevin. I mix aprox. 4 tablespoons of garlic powder with 1/4 hot water to dissolve and added that to aprox. 1.5 cups of olive oil. I put this in a spray bottle that I use for watering plants.

I sprayed my coop and voila.....dead mites....infestation pretty much done. I am also going to use "poultry shield", that I ordered online, but it hasn't arrived and my coop was getting more and more mites. I had to do something pronto, so I tried several different things. I tried apple cider vinegar, but it only kills some. The garlic oil seems to kill ALL!!!! I also used wood ashes, which does work too, but not for a big infestation like I had...

Especially good to use on chickens that are headed for the stew pot!

But seriously, oil is deadly to insects since they breathe through the skin. Oil coats the skin and suffocates them.

Yup yup, and to add to this, The garlic helps to keep them away. Works with fleas too if you are having trouble with your dogs or cats.

I ran my lawnmower for 2 years with olive oil!

I was mowing one evening, just before leaving for vacation.......when mower's engine
"seized"...................

I couldn't get it re-started............no way, no how!

Called my dad about the seized engine, and he asked me when the last time was that I changed my oil?!
(Changed my oil??? Huh???)
(Never claimed to be knowledgible in such matters...........my bad!)

Anyhow, if dad thought I needed to change/add the oil, then that was what I was going to do!
Only problem was that it was now 8 p.m., on a Sunday evening, so anywhere to buy engine oil was closed!
And I had only 1+ hours left to mow, before it got too dark, and I had to leave for vacation
I would be gone for 2+weeks, so if I didn't get to mow right now........the grass would be super long, when I returned!

I had a lg. bottle of olive oil on my kitchen counter..............so I thought I'd give 'it' a try!
What the heck did I have to lose?
Added the EVOO, and pulled the starter 'thingy' a couple times.....just to 'move' the oil around a bit.......
then pulled the cord real hard and fast.............and, voila!...........the mower started right up!

I finished the 'pre-vacation' mowing, then ran the oilve oil mower for 2 years more, before buying a new one!

Olive oil rocks, if you ask me!

That is hysterical... did you tell your Dad what you did?

To the OP, I like your idea. I use something similiar with dish soap for a insect repellant in my garden. Clever you!
