I have hens of one year, two year and three years old. The pecking order was settled long ago and the henhouse was a peaceful place. This morning I had to get three different hens off my Sicilian Buttercup. She usually just scoots around peaceable through them, but today, one after the other of 3 different breed hens went after her. One of them jumped on her back as she scrambled for the ladder and started pecking her on the head. I was putting fresh water in their water dispenser and shot a spray at the offending hen, who backed off. The Buttercup climbed the ladder and sat there for a while, but when she came down a different hen started chasing her. I checked her out and other than some ruffled feathers, she isn't hurt. She doesn't seem to be sick, eating her normal amount of food and going on with her normal activities and she's not one to challenge for queenship. What could be another reason some of the other hens are going after her?
