I have some very distinct feather length in my 5 orpingtons that hatched. Is it possible to tell gender in Orpington based on wing feathers? Only asking because there is a big difference. The one chick has very long feathers, one has medium and the other three very little feathering even though they were the first to hatch.

That actually makes me feel much better. I prefer when it’s not an indication I just want to enjoy my chicks and not stress that only one is a girl lol. Thanks.
Hi, i have a couple buff Orpington’s in my experience as long as they have wings feathers before a couple days their probably girls, all though my buff Orpington rooster had short wing feathers, when he got his

I had one that noticeably got feathers early then the other four and she was the only girl. In my current batch two have you ably gotten feathers quicker out of 8 so I’m super curious what will happen with this batch. I hope others are right that you can’t tell by feathers but based on my first batch I’m wondering

I’ve only had 4 chicks but for me I’ve have 100% accuracy with this, also this isn’t feather sexing it’s that female chicks develop faster then males, also when hatching usually its 40-60% 50-50% 70-30% never 80%+ for pullets, but good luck
by the way another good way to tell is females are smaller not including fluff of course lol

Purely anecdotal Evidence, but I had 6 Chicks feather out very quickly, and at the same time. Only 2 turned out to be Pullets.
