I used to work at a privately owned zoo and I'm still friends with people that work there. They have one male and two female adult ostriches and have been trying for years to get some babies with no success. We believe that most of the eggs are indeed fertile and have become quite successful at getting the eggs out of the enclosure. They want to try and get some fertile eggs and hatch/hand raise them... Anyone have any experience on hatching ostriches?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

What kind of information would you like? I spent about 8 years living with my grandparents raising ostriches. On the egg gathering issue, we hollowed our an area about 6 feet from the fenceline and used a pool hook to gather eggs. We has large incubators. I may be able to find some pictures of some of the incubators we had in quarentine. The ostrich market sure is not what is was back then. Have they witnesed any breeding. We had 1 hen for 2 years never laid an egg for us sold her as a pet and then the first night at her new home she laid an egg.

They want to try and set up an incubator. We do see them mating all the time so we know for sure its going on and the hens are ALWAYS laying tons of eggs. They just aren't very good at taking care of them... So yea, any info on incubators and stuff like that would be great! Thanks so much!
