at the zoo usually
I was getting ready to leave this morning, and bent over to pick up my dog's leash so she could come with me. (the leash was attached to her). At the same moment I bent over, Sweet Pea got excited, and bounced up in the air. Direct contact between hard (very, very hard) dog skull and my mouth. That was some pain, I tell you. No serious damage, but my lip sure is bruised and sore. It hurts to eat, talk, or smile.

Note to self, step on leash to prevent jumping before trying to pick it up.

yup I can attest for this, it does hurt, this happened to me a very long time ago. I know better now for sure, after that incident I learned to leash them and not open the door or move the leash until they were seated and listening. then I learned something else.....well 2 things.....

1. do not hang on to the leash when you are opening the door...I flew down the stairs.....

2. if taking more than one dog, do not stand in front or in between them when you open the door....you can guess what happened there.

so I just open the door now allow them to run like crazy overly excited animals and then I settle them down and away we go.

I have a lot of acreage so usually we go for a hike out back where leashes are not needed. but sometimes I like to walk down to the creek and allow them to go for a swim which is when they get all excited cause they love swimming.

hope you heal fast....

to you on a speedy recovery!

Thanks everyone for the hugs and good wishes. Ema, you sure have had your share of doggie accidents, owie! How did you fare at the bottom of the stairs? Sometimes I let Sweet Pea run of her own accord to the car, but she stands a good chance of running away, and making me late. Other times she will loop the yard, and come back. We are working on this. Thanks again everyone.

annie, sorry about your eye, that had to hurt like crazy. And a black eye is so obvious as well. My damage is more inside, so it isn't really visible.

well I got 6 dogs, 5 large ones and 1 tiny one, I know how to pair them up so they do not run away. both golden labs together (females) they will encourage each other to take off and not listen. so they get split up I place the older male with the more prone to run away female (Omega female) and they stay put. then I put my St. Bernard king Shepperd mix and my husky with the Alpha female and she keeps a tight leash on them, literally, they know not to go on the road ever...but the husky is still a pup, 9 months old, so he pushes the boundaries sometimes. the little one, A Shih Tzu, well he gets overly excited and goes on walk separately from the rest of the dogs, cause he refuses to listen and tries to pee on the boys ahahaha.

as far as how I faired at the bottom of the stairs. they are wood and only 5 of them. but my back and bum hurt...lol....After I was done cussing at no one in general and my DH was done laughing at me. I hobbled my bum down to the creek. lol.

You've got your hands full Ema, but it also sounds like you have it all figured out. Two dogs are more than enough for me, and Reno is my old man, so he doesn't have that hyper energy anymore. Glad your fall wasn't any worse than just some injured pride. Bet it hurt, though.

Similar experience,I was on the ground playing with my baby corgi(now full grown)and I had a treat and started saying "Emma Emma come here come here"in an all exited voice and of course she runs over and headbuts me in the face

I had a bloody nose and lip for few minutes but she wasnt harmed at all lol

I think our dogs are cousins. I had the leash on her and she got excited and spun me around and down I went, hit the asphalt with my eyebrow. (did't hurt the asphalt) Had a black eye for to weeks. My poor hubby took the blame.
