Our 9 year male hasn't lost his feathers yet this year and keeps mating

I think it is mostly tradition that large breeders of peafowl have been taught from their mentors. The practice of removing the train and tail feathers when the cocks are molting is to insure that the trains come back in earlier and in more uniform growth. Some think that the cocks are ready earlier in the year for breeding.
