Actually it's every time I go out the back door. They'll even follow me into the house because they know I keep a bag of bird seed there.
This afternoon I came out the back door with a scoop of bird seed. Our Rhode Island Red hen has a habit of jumping up and grabbing my finger if I don't get down to her right away. This time she jumped and flew almost straight up and landed on my hand. She stayed perched on my wrist for almost a minute, looking me in the eye, till she decided to fly down.
Our chickens are about 14 months old and have always been close to us. This is the first time in months that any of them have perched on either my wife or me though.
