Hello, We finally started to build!!!!!! Here is what was going on April 6:

April 6, 2010

Wow, arn't we the family of procrastinators?? The chicks are already 2 AND A HALF WEEKS OLD and we havent even started yet. Dad FINALLY went out to buy supplies for the coop (not including the corrugated PVC for the roof- or ANYTHING for the run, but hey, its a start! ) and will probably start wednesday, but who knows since it will be a balmey 93 degress here in northern Maryland! But we plan for it to be a 4x8 coop with 8' tall walls. Dad went all-out and got a screen door with a storm door, and THREE BIG WINDOWS- like ACTUAL WINDOWS. ( We suggested just cutting holes for the window and doors and screening them in- but oh well ) He plans to use one of the windows as the pop door, putting it on the floor and opening it that way. So thats the update so far

I came home from school today to find Dad and his friend working on the chicken coop!! I wish I had pics of it going up- but I'd rather have It done

Our coop is 4x8 (We tried to persway him to go 8x8, but its still awsome) We used T1-11 plywood for the walls. Dad owns a plumbing buisness, so he has this backhoe type thing to dig up wells, and he used it do dig into the side of the hill. He placed the coop on 5 cement blocks, and is currently working on it. I offered my help but he said he his friend could do it just fine. They have gotten a ton done- but they are both carpenders, and Dad (and my mom) built our house- so thats probably why. He also has MANY tools, ( a nail gun is very handed, seeing how he has used it alot. These are todays pics:

I want to be able to put the in there without a heat lamp- and Iknow they sould have one till there 8 weeks- but the normal temp right know is 60- 75. Im thinking it will take one week to build the coop- then one week to allow the paint to settle, then they will be 5 weeks old
