Our new coop is officially done! We're so excited to get our girlies next weekend! My husband has worked so hard building our first coop from the ground up with no "real" plans other than his dad talking to him about what his coop looked like that he had growing up. Got my door sign on Ebay...

While the sign is nice, I REALLY like the slide bolt latch! Also, it is interesting use of diagonal bias on the door to prevent it from drooping in the future, GOOD JOB! I like the use of the weathered barn wood and the bat and board siding. It is simple but very effective. Also good use of roof overhangs to protect the openings (windows, doors and nest box access). So many people cut corners and don't provide suitable overhangs like you've done. I'd be interested to see a close-up of the pop door. I can almost make it out in one of the photos. At some point you may want to fortify the run a bit, but if the ladies stay in the coop each night that won't be all that important of an upgrade.

Please give my compliments to your DH! He done good!

I showed DH your post and he just grinned with pride! Thanks so much for the compliments. Can't wait to get our girlies in there and comfy and ready to give us some nice eggs to show that they love their new home.

Beautiful! Nicely done! How'd you make your windows?

I believe he just did a traditional square box window with plexiglass inserts. The windows are on a hinge so they could be opened for ventilation in the warmer months...inside the coop is chicken wire over the holes for security while opened.
