This isn't a question ---- it's more like an update.
It's been a few years since I've posted here. A big part of the reason is that I was busy with other projects (building additions to the house) and we also had to drastically improve the fencing around our coop. We also cemented and installed hardware cloth in an area under a shed where a little dog got in and attacked a guinea fowl. Our rooster is making a close inspection of the work. He is very gentle and has fathered several chicks.
The improved security is showing results now and we have had not one or two, but four broody hatches between March and mid-May. (First broody hatch was just one that has turned into a cute gray hen (not shown).
We have installed cages on the side of a rabbit hutch for moms and their chicks. This system works much better than anything on the ground because it is drier and cleaner in a raised cage for the babies.
My goal is a flock of between 50 and 100.
