Our Dog-Kennel Coop (Lots of Pix)

I decided it was time to build a deeper poop-pit today. The previous pit under the roosts was only a 2x4 high, so it filled up quickly.

We had a three-quarter-inch piece of plywood from an old wheelchair-ramp from grandma's house. I would rather have used three-eighths to save on weight, but decided heavy was OK since it would also be cheap. I hauled the sixteen-inch-high box into the coop, pulled the roosts off the old pit, and screwed the roosts on the new pit. Ta-da.

I've been trying to teach the chickens some basic carpentry skills, but they don't seem to be catching on.

New poop-pit with the first inspectors...

The rest of the inspection committee...

The next project will be a matching box for the ladder-roost to the left of the main roosts. And then prob'ly a dusting box... The chooks are looking a little grungy since they haven't had a good bath in a couple months.

I have a dog kennel I was thinking of using for my chicken coop and run. I don't have one like that mine is a fenced pen basically.

You've done a great job! It looks great. I do think I would put chicken wire or hardware cloth up 2' or so all the way around the chain-link run to prevent a predator from reaching through and grabbing someone.
