Hi all, we had our first babies born on our farm about 10 days ago. Here they are! I'm over the moon.
This first time Muscovy mama hatched out 16 of 19 eggs
Dad is either a blue pied or a chocolate pied.
Do any of you have experience telling future feather color from babies' down? I've googled, but I'm having a hard time finding baby/adult comparison photos!
Both potential dads, as well as mom shown above, do not have a clean white head (instead splattered with their main color) so I'm assuming they are all heterozygous for pied. Yes? The duckling in this picture with the solid color head gives me hope that this assumption is correct. I'd like to remove the pied gene eventually from my flock. But, baby steps! For now I'm thrilled to just watch them grow.
