The 'too much sunshine' sunshine state
Hello all! I've been on backyard chickens for a while since I used to have ducks, and so in that sense this isn't my 'first rodeo' raising a flock...just chickens instead of ducks!

My mom picked them up today and I'm so excited to raise these little cuties and care for them! We moved a while ago and left our flock of ducks with a neighbor (since the rest of my family did not want to keep them sadly) so it has been a while since I've had some feathered friends around here. We never had chickens before because our county had weird laws that allowed ducks but not chickens.

We got 4 chicks, all different breeds--a Buff Orpington, a Red Star, a Swedish Flower, and an Austrolop. My mom largely chose the breeds based on good layers and friendly type as far as I know. We may get more in the future (a side effect of crazy chicken ladies, I suppose :) ) but for now we wanted to try a few different breeds.

I've had to do some research about the differences between ducks and chickens, and the one I think I will appreciate the most is that apparently chickens are much much neater. I loved my ducks but boy were they MESSY. 😂

Anyways, these four little ones don't have names quite yet, but they'll get some soon once we've had some time to think and to observe them. I'm looking forward to finally being a part of the actual 'chicken' part of these forums and can't wait to meet more members! (If I don't already know you 😉)
