Hey guys,

So I wanted to post some pictures of our coop. It currently houses 6 chicks, and what you will notice is some wood frames in the background of the run that we are building for them. In the final phase, the coop itself will be inside the cage for extra safety. We did not actually build this, as when we started to look into the materials, it ended up being too costly. This one we got for very cheap off of Craigslist, so we were pretty happy. The coop does need some work on the outside, so it's a WIP.

On the left side here is a window. We have secured it temporarily with some screws so it doesn't open, as well as chicken wire.

The coop from the back. What you may not see well is tiny holes drilled in the roof and sealed with glue, to provide some light.

The chicken wire is more clearly seen here, as well as our run framework. What we have also done is remove the two top-half panels, and install smaller, sturdier wire to provide airflow from the left to the right side. We found that the chicks today were panting a lot inside, and so I thought of this idea. We will be installed a tiny fan inside to help with the air flow. This should prevent any hot air buildup up top.

The right glass pane is missing, and has wire over it. I actually like it that way, because it provides additional air flow to the bottom.

This is the front. It has a much larger window that is removable, same style as the others you see above. We've added some screws to the bottom and top of the frame to make sure the window isn't pushed in, and if you can see the board stucking out diagonally on the bottom left corner, we lift that up and put a shelf that's tightly held to the house to cover the window.

Once we get the coop inside the run and wire the entire area, we will reinforce by double layering the bottom half of the run with larger, thicker wire for extra security. I haven't seen any large predators around, except for hawks, but we aren't taking any chances.

What you also see is the create and steps we put on the inside so that can climb up to roost. So far so good. Now we're just modifying the design, and I will eventually be scrubbing the white paint off the windows and repainting the entire thing myself. The boyfriend is helping with everything else.

What do you guys think? Kudos to the previous owner on the design. It's actually very well made.
