My eleven year old son saved his money all summer, and purchased 3 Black Dutch Bantam pullets. This is our coop. We started with a dog kennel, wrapped it in chicken wire and hardware cloth. Then we installed an electric fence around the perimeter. (I am a little paranoid about raccoons. I worked at a nature center, and a raccoon took a full grown red tailed hawk out of an aviary piece by piece one night.) My son did a lot of the coop work himself.

I am trying to add my picture.

hey!!!! That gave me an idea!!!! take an old desk...and add roosts to it...and you have a mini coop!!!! I also have a dog house like that in my mini coop we made for the Porc. D'Uccles, we have two of those....havent finished yet with them, I threw the dog house in there as a quickie...and good thing, it poured heavy rain...

I think that is a very cool thing, that your son saved, got his chicks, and did most of the work! Congrats to you and your son!
Teaching responsibility to my son was one of the reasons I got chickens... too bad my sons only two!
