We just finished building our first coop! It was so much fun. We just need a few more items for the hens and then we will get them this week we hope. They are about 8-10 weeks old. I've read both "Building Chicken Coops for Dummies" and "Raising Chickens for Dummies", loved both of them.
We started the coop with a pallet as a base and used mostly stuff we had around the house, but did spend about $200.00 extra and we bought the dog kennel as a run. We have wire to put around the bottom of it. We also have a shade cloth kennel cover to go over it.
These are a few of the many pics we took along the way. I still have to fill the "windows" with something and we are naming our coop (which I will stencil on the front) "The Chicks' Shall-Lay"
