Our First Egg!

Hello everyone!

We got our very first egg today from one of our ladies! Since I'm completely new to this, I was curious as to if the first eggs are usually "off?"

She is a Golden Sexlink. And the egg looks... speckled?

Is this normal for a first egg? She scratched at it, too. She really had no idea what to do with it.

I got my first 2 weeks ago. I have two Dominiques that lay now on alternating days.

So at least we have one egg a day, as of now. One of the silkies started a few days later.
So exciting!!

Congratulations! Isn’t it magical?

Our little flock has been laying for a few weeks now. I’m seeing several of the birds go through a “learning curve” of the getting the egg thing just right, so I think it’s pretty common to get some funny eggs early on. Enjoy the preciousness!

Is the bloom okay to be speckled? It feels rough.

It is perfectly fine. I have some brown egg layers that lay speckled eggs 100% of the time. Enjoy the egg.
