In regard to saving your first egg, I totally hear you! I'm the same way in regard to mementos.
Since you want to save the shell, I would highly recommend this site:

Hobbyland, many many moons ago, had an Easter Egg creation class. They supplied the eggs (I think they were store bought though) but that link above is exactly what we did to drain them to keep the shell. Whatever you do, don't do what I tried to do and hard boil them and save them, because eventually it will go rotten - grossaronious! We then decorated them with paper mache.
I'm not you - but if I were (and I think I may do it when we get our first egg) is use the same method as the class (and that site link) and then just write on the egg "Our first egg" and the date or something.
I think it is special that you want to keep the shell!!
