Starting a backyard coops has been a long journey. We started in June of last year and finally got our first egg a week ago! We had heartbreak early as we lost our first three chickens to disease. There's a lot of bad advice and bad stock out there. We ended up with Merick's in our first girls which almost broke us. But after the loss we did some research and started over with some vaccinated chicks and bio safety measures. On Super Bowl Sunday, our sassy Easter Egger laid her first "fart" egg! She's laid every other day since and they're getting bigger each time!
I've been so grateful for all the stories and advice I've read on this forum. I had to share our joy!
We also added two new members to our little flock. Two little Cuckoo Marans. We now have 1 Easter Egger, 2 Light Brahmas, 1 Barred Cochin and 2 precious little Cuckoo Marans.
