Our rooster Fudgie is so smart! Right now he and Meringue are in the banty coop, which is much like a townhouse apt. Sleeping upstairs, living area down (ROFLMAO)! Well Fudgie figured out the ramp up and down the stairs within a few days, but Meringue.. well... um... while quite lovely, and makes an excellent girlfriend... isn't too quick on the uptake.

For a while I would just have to put her upstairs to bed, and Fudgie would get up there himself. I caught him trying to get her up the stairs one evening, but she just kept going back down at half way.

Sunday I went out of town so the 2 were left to their own devices. I figured they'd be spending the night downstairs on the pull out couch for a couple of days. Not too bad since it's warm outside.

Today when I got home they were "downstairs" as usual. The food and water downstairs had obviously been consumed, not so much in the "bedroom" upstairs. So I assumed they'd been living downstairs all this time. So this evening when I went to the garden to move the hose, I looked in the coop... no babies. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH, where are my babies!!! *running over to the coop*... still no babies.....so I finally flung open the upstairs door and looked in the brooder box... well whose head come popping up giving me the "rooster eye!" Yep, it was ol' Fudgie!! Apparently he'd finally taught his girl how to get up the ramp and they were sleeping upstairs, put themselves to bed! I'm such a proud mama! Not bad for 6 weekers!!!

Here they are... it was getting dark so the image isn't so good.. but you can see Fudgie giving me the rooster eye because I was taking pics of them.

That's a GREAT pic - sometimes the later light in the day makes for better color - no washouts! Cute story and what beautiful babies!

Cool, an SS roo! We have our first first Sussexes this year, a boy and a girl (the 2 extra roos got culled). The two remaining are both above-average intelligent & curious compared to some of my other chickens.

Have fun with him.
