We started with 1 dozen lavender Orpington eggs: 1 broke in arrival and a lot of early deaths: 4 out of the 11 hatched (there gorgeous!!!)

Then 12 dozen lemon cuckoo orpingtons: 1 broke on arrival and sadly...as I was getting flashlight to candle for air sacs it fell on eggs :O and cracked 3 more. lesson LEARNED! Felt sick about it BUT 7 out of the 8 hatched! Crazy good, so pleased!

2 more out of our own eggs hatched (a little dramatic and had to be helped bc it was my first time incubating N humidity off)

Overall...so pleased with the hatch though-hopefully a good amount are hens!

Great job on your hatch! My first set of shipped eggs are due to day- I'm very nervous as I did set a batch previous (6 weeks ago) and not even one hatched (only three were even developed and the power went out). I worked much harder this time at keeping temp and humidity right.
Did you lay yours flat for the hatch or put them in cartons? What trouble did you have with humidity?
Congratulations on the lavender orpies- I've been looking for some for my neighbor- very hard to find and so lovely.

I left out an important detail haha, I set most under my broody-she hatched out 10 and then one was under another broody who abandoned it at pip so I didn't want to lose that chick and popped it in bator...it zipped and was out in an hr! Few! I has my humidity perfect by then though...the other couple I had in the bator that were mine I didn't add humidity quick enough and they shrink wrapped a little after pip and had to be helped...one hatched good, one pushed out too early once I zipped a little for it...I did a dry hatch which worked perfectly but I should hand filled reservoirs with water at 18 days and not waited till first PIP. I started hatching them standing up in carton and then once pipped more sat them down but I heard if you laid them down after being in turner the temp difference could be bad but it wasn't too bad bc they were fine after I moved them :)

Fantastic! I really thought about using one of my broody hens, but the eggs were so expensive I didn't want to risk her because she's never hatched before. Thank you for sharing more info.
When you zipped your little egg that had pipped and shrink wrapped, how did you do this? It sounds like you did it right :) Any advice? Thank you!
