Hi everyone. Newbie here...I came across this site searching symptoms and joined because you gals and guys are very knowledgeable, I'm hoping maybe you can shed some light on what's going on with my daughters little piggy.

We have a Mini Juliana that is 4 months old who lives inside. All has been fine up until Friday. Friday morning I failed to close the basement behind me when I was coming up she was coming down she slid down 3 steps then jumped the rest of the way landing on her feet, but that jump was about 6'!

That was at 7:00 am she seemed fine after it happened and had her breakfast, by 11:50 am my daughter was calling me crying saying she wasn't right. I got home at 12:00 and she was walking around in circles wouldn't eat or drink and had a seizure. I called every vet in a 30 mile radius, only 1 agreed to look at her and he was able to see her by 2:00 pm. He said right away he's only seen 3 pigs in 20 years, but said he didn't think it had anything to do with the jump/fall; he said he thought she has salt toxicity.

He kept her overnight we picked her up Saturday morning. She acted as is she couldn't see and slept most of the day (when we weren't waking her up to give her syringes of water, 5ml every 2 hours, as the DR instructed) by Monday she was almost back to herself and got her eyesight back! Yesterday I came home to her having another seizure from 8:00 pm to 4:10 am this morning she was seizure free but had 4 between 4:10 am and 7:30 am.

Also, she will NOT eat!! She just pushes her food and water around with her snoot. I was sure she couldn't open her mouth but the last 2 times I gave her water and milk through a syringe she now opens her mouth and clamps down on it.

The vet said there was nothing else he can do and said if she got worse over the weekend he recommended putting her down. :'''( She is so much better than what she Friday though, I don't want to give up on her - on the other hand and most importantly, I don't want her suffering.

Any advice??

Thank you in advance!

Ask him if she can be put on seizure medication. The seizures might be a result of a blow to her head or she may have a hereditary predisposition towards them. If it was from a blow, it should be possible to eventually wean her from the medication. Dogs can be maintained on anti seizure meds for a lifetime. I don't know about pigs, but hopefully this is true of them also. Good luck.

:welcome Sorry for the circumstances.

I second the seizure meds. I don't know where you are located but I have an amazing vet here with years and years of pig experience- she actually had a mostly pig practice in Nevada before moving to Missouri. I don't know if she typically does phone consults or anything but I'd be happy to give you her number- maybe she has some ideas?

Why not start a 'conversation' with sannabelle, get her veterinarian's phone # and place a call. There's nothing to lose.
