to roost overnite on the highest perch, By the vents and roof ridge where the breeze/wind/drafts comes through? They have been doing it only for a couple nights. Could it be that they like it?

Or was I dumb to put the roost that high? Its a My Little Playhouse from Lowes.

mine would roost on the open window that came in. some times it was in the thirties. they didn't care.

I'm dumb enough. I got sick sitting at a desk directly under a large vent that blew too much air. I wasn't too cold, but it does affect the respiratory system. The problem with chickens is that their instincts drive them to roost as high as possible, even if it is not the safest place.

Drafts are only bad when it is cold. What I have done for cold weather is to baffle the openings with breathable fabric like old sheets or weedblock fabric. It should cut down on drafts but still allow the moisture to escape.

Humm, heat rises so maybe its warmer up there even with the vents.
