Our new babies first egg!

The first of this year's babies eggs came today. Tammy is one of our leghorns. She's 21 weeks and laid her first today. Her sisters (one other leghorn and 2 Plymouth rocks) of the same age should be about to start as well.

She wasn't particularly happy to pose with her prize though!

Tammy has now laid 5 eggs in 6 days and is off to a great start.

Her Plymouth rock sister, Poppy was tending their first egg when I opened their coop yesterday morning and there were a pair of baby eggs this morning.

I was just cleaning up the outside food and came across what I think is our little Absalom?'s first attempt at an egg hidden under a tree. She's already been put to bed, so no pictures with her first. There is membrane and yolk, but no albumen or shell. Maybe she will do better tomorrow.

Is it still scrambled eggs if there is no white to it?

She probably doesnt have enough calcium. Either add oyster shells or add eggshells. I have oyster allergies in my family so i do eggshells.

We've had crushed oyster shells available in their coop for a week now. There is also a shell dish by their feeding area and in the Brahma's coop as well. If she keeps having issues maybe we'll have to try to get her alone with it so we know she's taking some. See was just going into a nesting box when I was checking on them a minute ago so maybe we'll know sooner than later.

Try letting her eat them out of your hands. My girls last year laid a few eggs without shells. Then they went on to being normal eggs. So maybe shes trying to figure it out.
