My wife and I recently decided to keep chickens. We have 8 young birds that are about 6-7 weeks old. I recently completed build the coop and wanted to share some photos. I spent some time on BYC looking at coop designs and desinged one that fits our needs and back yard well. Total cost was around $500.
Frame was built in garage.
I leveled the ground and put the coop in the place. Then I installed the siding.
Inside view, the floor is removable and flush with the framing for easy cleaning. There are 2 sets of doors, one above the other to allow for easy access. The foot print inside is roughly 4x8. The lower door has a pop door for in / out privliges into the run. The chickens have 24hr access to the lower and upper floor. I'm planning on keeping the food and water on the lower floor. In the back there is a door for egg / nest access.
Built this window out of some scrap wood and a piece of plexy glass.
Added the run (chicken wire and hardware mesh not seen)
First day for chickens in the coop. Still have a heat lamp for them.
