last june we had two pet chicken hens
one of them was killed by a predator
the remaining chicken never laid eggs again, her belly began to fill with fluid and we began to see slightly dirty bottom. we knew her days were numbered.
but she continued to have such spunk we decided not to cull, but let her live as long as she seemed comfortable. So we got our chicken a turkey poult buddy.
all was well.
Two weeks ago or so, nearly simultaneously,
the turkey began to lay eggs.
Both birds started being easier to handle,
chicken didn't even run from kids
both birds started occasionally showing a hunched posture,
and maybe even appeared sleepy.
then friday night, I found the chicken hunched at the back door instead of in her hutch.
pale legs, felt "skinny"
I brought her in and she just floated in her epsom spa, and didn't try to get out once.
by saturday morning she couldn't walk and I'm not sure she could move her wings either.
sunday wouldn't drink or even eat meal worms
i went and got her corid sunday, gave her a drench
and she died in the night sunday.
Monday Dept of Ag picked up the chicken the fella said it sounded like Marak's. Because her foot curled and limbs limp last 24hrs. But he knew very little about her over all symptoms. He was on his way back in from something at the state capitol. Not the vet. He said our turkey would die too.
He didn't look at either bird, our yard or anything. He was in his dress clothes and didn't offer to. Sherri said Dr. Herron would call, but he hasn't. Meredith, our 30lb BBB turkey has been on corid in drinking water 2tsp/1gal, four days today. Are their other wormers or antibiotics or anything you can recommend that might help save her if it is not Marak's? This photo is what she is doing right at time to go in the hutch these days.
