We used to have a rooster named Hank (above), he was friendly only to me, hated everyone else. He made a great father and a great leader/protector for the hens. But he was very weak, he may not have seemed it, but he lost every time another rooster challenged him! (We got rid of the roosters that did that, no one touches my favorite boy). We only had 2 roosters at a time and they were Hanks sons. every time he got attacked by them he suffered brain damage! he would have his head on the ground running backwards, forget how to be a rooster, and just be limp. We always separated him in a tote, with our constant care and easily accessible food and water he did not have to bend over to eat. Hank always recovered fully after a week or two, so we’d send him back out with his flock that the other rooster “somehow” went missing from. Hank only ever got along with one rooster, who is our flocks rooster now, Crow. crow was always abiding to hanks rules, staying at the back of the flock to protect them from behind as Hank led them. Hanks fought off all kinds of predators and protected his hens till the very end, when he died of exhaustion fighting off a dog that had attacked the hens. May he rest in peace.

This is Crow now! ❤️ he’s such a sweet boy.
