We have just finished our coop!!!! YAY Now we need to know if it is OK and when it is OK to leave them out all night?
They are between 5 and 6 weeks old. The temperature here at night is in the mid 40's.
Any help???

I'm all for getting them out of the house because they are messy and stinky. Just make sure you have a lamp set up for warmth for a little while at night if it looks like they are huddling on each other. Always best to set that up before dark and flick a switch if you have to.

If you don't have electricity out to your coop yet, use an extension cord. Just make sure that your heat lamp is secured in two ways...don't want that lamp falling and causing a fire;) I put my last batch of chicks out at 4 weeks, they did fine. I did keep a thermometer out there and adjusted the heat lamp height as needed to keep it as warm as they needed. After having 3 batches of chicks in the house last summer, by the time the youngest were 4 weeks old, we were ready to have a dust free room!

Thank you all for your replies. I am really ready for a dust free and smell free home again. I sure have fallen in Love with these silly little girls. I think tonight will be there first night out

I will for sure put out the heat lamp for them. I don't want anything to happen to them.
Thanks again.
