So what does everyone use for their outside runs? I currently out mulch down a few times a year and it keeps it dry. I saw this sand called "play sand" I have heard of using this. Is this the wrong stuff?

Is there a different kind of sand? What do you have?NEVER ever use playground sand
i don't have any sand in my pen yet, I am going to get some this summer thoughIs there a different kind of sand? What do you have?
It is supposed to be really bad for them, I think the sand has been treated, sand from a creek or river would be better
Oh I haven't looked it up yet! You're not a bad chicken mom, you would think it would be safe if kids can play with it!OMG! I just looked it up, there is some flap about it on line. My chickens have been dust bathing in it all winter. The bag was too heavy for me to pour before yesterday.(my bf poured it) I did get a cloud of dust in my face, stopped breathing but didn't think much of it except it reminded me of cat litter. Thought maybe it was just pulverized from being stacked, like feed gets. So, my chickens have been smoking? basically? I feel like a terrible chicken mom! Will find some real sand quick! I grew up in FL and CA always on the beach, now I live in the Great Lake state! (More sand).
WTH! Is any of it safe? Now I'm wondering what the cats are smoking!![]()
So just regular beach sand will work? I need to change something bc it still gets so mucky. No smell but muckyi don't have any sand in my pen yet, I am going to get some this summer though
