Outside time

My girls are 3 weeks old today. I want to take them outside for a while. Two black Australorps and 2 Speckled Sussex. We are in Northeast Florida. Night temps are low 70s and daytime temperatures are mid to upper 90s. They will be in a predator proof cage. I would actually like to get them acclimated to the other 4 I already have outside ( 2 leghorns and 2 Black Australorps), so I may put their cage next to the run while they are on their “field trip “. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

Yes you can do that as long as they are in the cage. Then slowly transferring them with the older chickens.

You can scatter some treats for your adult girls around the outside of the baby’s enclosure so that they spend some time around the little ones safely.

Of course, you want to make sure they have adequate shade and you are monitoring for the heat, too. They obviously need fresh water, but because they are little they may not be able to regulate their body temperature as well yet as a bigger chicken. That is, afterall, exactly why you're getting them outside, to help their bodies make the adjustment. I'm sure they will enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, grass and company of their new chicken sisters!

I have Australorps as well, love them! I almost started out with a flock of 15 Speckled Sussex though, and I hope to be able to add some as well, before too long.
