over-run by ticks....what to use

I went to our local farm auction that runs every wednesday and guineas were practically being given away. I would try finding a farm auction. We have no ticks this year the chickens free range. My backyard is a cedar swamp so no ticks is good

We have gazillions of ticks, and our birds free range. They do not appear to eat the ticks. They are in our house, cars, everywhere. I pulled one off my head in the middle of the night last night. I would love to have a guinea.
BTW-- for those of you worried about Lyme disease, I got it a while ago, and had to take some powerful antibiotics for two weeks. The first sign is often a red ring (kinda like ringworm) around the tick bite. Like a bullseye. Some people just get a rash. And you may get flu type symptoms. If you see the bullseye, go to the doctor ASAP. Go to the emergency room if you can't get into your doctor.

There is a natural garlic based yard spray called mosquito-less.

NOTE I DO NOT SELL THIS STUFF, I had a heck of a time just finding enough for my own needs last summer when I made the mistake of telling people about it.

It said on the bottle that it worked for ticks also so we tried it on our yard.

We live on a 80 acre homestead in the sticks with a pond behind our house so I was really worried about mosquitos.

I sprayed the front yard and the dog kennel with the stuff and it REALLY WORKED.

I actually sprayed it on myself as a test and went for a walk in the bush in july.....no mosquitos and no ticks....mostquitos were around but they kept 2+ ft away and if they did land they IMMEDIATELY flew off.

To put things in perspective, walking without any protection would have led to 20+ ticks and a gazillion mosquito bites in the matter of a few minutes..

We have 2 large GSD's and we were pulling lots of ticks off them every day even with the tick stuff you put on thier necks.... As long as I sprayed the yard every 3 weeks we had no issues with either.

I also know that ticks dont like the garlic stuff as I pulled a few off and put them on a piece of cardboard inside of a circle i made by dipping my finger in the garlic stuff.... They kept trying to get out of the circle but when they would hit the line of dried garlic stuff they would turn around and head in the other direction....frankly it was kind nice to torment the creapy crawlies for a change rather than the other way around.

We have ticks galore on our property. My son had 2 of them on him this week, my mom sat on my lounge by the pool and had one on her and my brother just walked on my front lawn and had one on him. I really HATE them. They really creep me out. We usually have a company come and spray our property. They told us that once the lawn is sprayed, let it dry (usually about 2 hours) and then it is safe for our pets. We are new to chickens so I'm going to have to ask about them but I know my dog eats the grass and she's never had a problem. The spraying last year eliminated the ticks. We spray about 3 times each summer. They are due to come spray for this summer, next week. I was told by the man that ticks have been really bad in my area because we've gotten so much rain..but I can't remember the reason why more rain =more ticks.

My mother also had lyme disease about 2 yrs ago. They had gotten back from a trip to AK. Her Dr. refused to treat her since the tests came back negative. (very common) My mother is an RN, but she was new to that Dr. as they had just moved from IA to NM. My mother DEMANDED to be treated and that "Dr." still refused. Finally when the pain was so bad, and my mother could barely get out of bed, she went to an orthopaedist. She had a previous shoulder injury. That Dr. could not treat her lyme, but was able to start her on a regimin of antibiotics, that started her recouperation. Her medical Dr. finally treated her. I have my mother back. Her pain turned her into someone else. I could hear it on the phone. Don't let the Dr.s refuse to treat you. Be loud! Don't give up.​
