OK, Im sure I am just displacing some of the anxiety I use to feel when my kids would play outside, but I have to think there are others out there with the same problem! I have six assorted girls from TSC who are 4-5 weeks old. They are currently in the garage in a wire dog kennel while the weather warms up and their new home is built. Every day after work I go out and let them run around in the garage, practice flying, stretch their legs etc. They are pretty good listeners excepts occasionally when they find a stray piece of plastic or foam. This is where I get servere anxiety. I chase them like the crazy chicken lady trying to get them to drop whatever they have, which (I swear) they think is the ultimate game of keep away, because I'm involved. My Husband says Im crazy and that they are "just chickens", But I don't want them to choke or eat something they can't digest. Am I going overboard here or should I start a chicken mom support group?

I don't know the answer but I wanted to say you have some very cutie little chicks. And if you start that support group I will be first in line to join. I don't even have mine yet....

I was finishing up my run today and my chick (same age as yours) were running around inside of it while I hinged the door. One of the screws dropped and HOLY MOLY, one of my chicks swiped it! I was shocked. Shocked that it would pick up a screw, shocked it got it so darn fast and shocked that I was ONE SCREW from finishing the darn run! Well, thankfully the little thing thought twice and dropped it. So, lesson is:
leave them alone, don't panic. Most likely they won't eat it if it doesnt taste good!

Some things can pose a chocking hazard. You might want to sweep out the garage to get rid of any stray pieces of foam and such. Looks like a big piece of foam insulation behind the bike there. Chicks aren't known for sharing and love to play keep away. If they can find something to get into they will so some chick proofing may be in order. But relax, they are just chickens.

Thanks for the replies. I brought some old potted plants in to the garage to keep them occupied, but I think I'll just have to watch closely until the coop is done. I did move the insulation. I'm saving that for their coop...

I might have to start a support group yet... but maybe I'll just start a blog, lol

Crumptz, I love your avatar! I have an old lady German shorthair and she drools and trembles hard enough to shake the house when she sees the chicks, I'm afraid to take them out around the dogs! It's like a dream come true to her. :)

im like you worry wart on everything i check on them constantly even at night waking up 3 or 4 times a night to make sure there not to hot or cold. i need a support group. then when you read this forum with all the chicks passing away it makes it even worse.

I'll join your support group lol! I worry about everything with these chicks, although I'm starting to relax a little. Except when I take them outside- I'm watching every bird in the sky, looking for my cat to come around the side of the house, etc.
