So, as I posted several months ago, last Fall I got some of the first Miniature Overbergs from Holderread's. They sent me 3 hens and a drake. Well, thus far, the breeding season is off to a tremendous start! The Overbergs started laying about three weeks ago (literally overnight). Since the first eggs, I have gotten two eggs every single day. There was one day this week that I got only one, but every day otherwise there have been two. I am so excited!!!

I cannot wait to see what we hatch. We set the first of the eggs this week. The next group I am going to probably set under a broody (I may let one of the Overbergs hatch some too). If they keep up at this level, I will almost certainly have eggs for sale later in the breeding season. The other thing that is funny is that these eggs are HUGE! The birds are about 50% smaller than some of my other bantam ducks and these eggs are the size of a medium to large chicken egg. Bizarre! I can't wait to see how the hatch goes. If I have learned anything though it is don't count your ducklings before they hatch! LOL

Overbergs when I first got them...

They are beautiful & I would just love some of them! What are they genetically; harlequin duskies with double blue dilution? I have never heard of them? Can you send me some eggs please

Yes, that is what they are! I would love to send you some if we could! LOL

They are pretty friendly, calm little birds too. I hope we have some success with them this year.

We haven't given them the opportunity to fly, but I am sure they would. As far as Holderread's, I really don't know if they are going to offer them for sale. Dave developed the Minis, so I hope they do eventually sell them. I had asked them about getting some about this time last year and then last Fall, they let me know they had these available. Beyond that, I don't know what their plans are for selling them in the future.

Wow - I love that color.

I've been trying very hard to resist the urge to get into Bantams, but I finally caved a week ago and got my first Call, and now I'm drooling over these!

Thank you, guys... I am glad you like them. They definitely are addictive. I had kept ducks for years before I added the bantams (other than Mallards), but the bantams quickly took over when I did start trying them out. There are so many things that set them apart from the large ducks (some of which I love too!). The bantams are usually friendlier and calmer than my big ducks (not always), they are easier to keep, and much more likely to go broody. Anyway, I love the bantam breeds.
