Overprotective duck

I have a male duck that gets along fine with my rooster, unless the rooster is trying to jump on top of one of the hens. Then the duck gets aggressive and pecks at rooster until he gets off the hen. So is he protecting my hens or what's his deal? And what do I do about it?

I do have one female duck. He mates with her only. Or at least, I've never seen him trying to do anything with the chickens.
