Any tips on owning a roo in a small town with neighbors and how many have done it? I have been locking him up inside every night so no one can hear him do his night nor early morning crows. No one has complained yet but he is a ALL day crower like all day. So it scares me. He is a 17 week old Sebright Bantam (And no I will not be eating him, he is my baby)

Are you allowed to keep a rooster in your neighborhood? If you are then there is no reason to be worried.

No I'm not, the neighbors are very close. Thats why I've been locking him up from around 8 pm to 10 am. He does midnight and super early morning crow. And all day crows. He have be crowing since he was around 10 weeks, so for 7 weeks I've been locking him up, and so far so good but he crows all day which is scary. This is him❤

If your neighbors complain just tell them that you have a crowing hen :D

Oh he is a darling, I can see how you would like to keep him.

People often come with wishes. Wishes that ordinary chicken behavior can be handled so as not to be a problem. You can try the no crow collar, some people swear by them, some at them. Some think they are dangerous.

The truth of the matter, is that it is ordinary behavior for a rooster to crow, and it can be quite irritating if you are close to it. Mine is a long ways from the house, and from a distance, I like the sound. I would be highly irritated if I had to live with it closer, and I like chickens.

I am predicting that this will not work for the long term. You might at least start looking at options that will let him live a more normal life in someone else's flock.

Have you considered asking your neighbors? They may not care and you may be worrying too much. I live in a small town, I have three roo’s and mine are legal but I’m back in the woods a bit. No one complains. I actually culled one before these three were crowing and one of my neighbors complained that the rooster was gone!
