Anyone have any experience with Oxysol vs. Tylan
Wondering if it worked or didn't work for you
Took one of my silkies to the vet that's been sick for awhile and they recommended trying this out. I've separated her with another then of mine that is sneezing a bit to so they can keep eachother company while on antibiotics. They both seem upset to be seperated from the flock. The rest of my flock seems fine/not sneezing. The vet told me she is very sick and thin. Wondering how to get her body weight up.

Anyone else had problems with white silkies specifically? I don't have very good luck with them. :(

Did the vet tell you what respiratory disease he suspected that you may be dealing with?

I would go by what was recommended by the vet as far as medication goes. Oxytetracycline and Tylan can be used to treat symptoms of bacteria like respiratory disease like Mycoplasma.

If you happen to lose her getting more diagnostics/necropsy through your agricultural ministry labs may give you better answers.

There are several respiratory diseases that can look similar, some are viruses so an antibiotic may not treat those but may help with secondary infection.

I would check her crop to make sure it's emptying overnight. As to getting her weight back up, you want to do that slowly. I would feed her chick starter or an all flock feed along with a little bit of treat like scrambled eggs. Poultry vitamins a couple of times a week may be helpful as well.

They didn't which is annoying. They weren't able to actually diagnose and said that sure they could take a blood sample but that's about it but didn't go forward with that and sent me home with Oxysol in hopes it would help. I've already had her on Tylan for a week previously.

She told me if we loose her to bring her in for a post-mortem to find out more.

The hen is also doing a head shake sometimes which leads me to believe there is an oxygen shortage to her brain.

How old is she?
A head shake may be neurological, ear infection, feathers/fuzz getting in her eyes, lice...
Look inside her ears and inside her beak for any signs of infection or canker. Make sure there's no lice that may be causing some issues as well.

If you gave Tylan at the correct dose for a week with no improvement, then likely the Oxy is not going to help either. You may be dealing with a virus but it's hard to know. A virus like Infectious Bronchitis can take a good while to resolve.

I would focus on nutrition and building her up. With a head shake (do you have a video of that?) I would be inclined to give her 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex once a day for 2 weeks to see if she improves. Give her some egg once a day too. Wet chick starter may be a good idea as well.

Make sure her crop is emptying completely over night too. Crop issues can cause some odd head and neck movements.

I've never had Silkies, but it seems like they are more prone to having neurological issues - likely due to the vaulted skull. They seem to require a bit of extra care, so just do the best you can.

I haven't been able to get a video of the head shake yet but will keep trying. It is like a slight twitch were she nods/shakes her head on one side every so often. She is about six months old. I've been doing the egg/vitamin combo for the last couple days and going to pick up some chick starter.
I have extra vitamins I can add to their water but the vet told me to just hold off until they're off the antibiotics.

They are both very lively and chatty still so I am having a hard time understanding how sick they are. The sneezing is down to very minimal which is an improvement and she is no longer constantly sneezing. Just once in awhile after she eats or pecks around which seems normal.
