Oyster shells for babies

Does anyone give their baby chicks oyster shells or grit with the starter food? My babies will be here tomorrow.

No. Chick starter doesn't require either. Some grit, by week 3, if you begin to feed other things that require grit. Shell is calcium and not needed and may even be counter productive to good chick health.

I agree with the previous post. Also, I have read that oyster shell can actually be detrimental to your chickens. Too much calcium. Save that for the pullets who are laying.
