I keep coming across people mentioning oyster shells. Am I suppose to feed me chickens oyster shells? I have 4 20wk old chickens that just started laying eggs 3 days ago. Thank you to anyone that can help me : ))

Oyster shell provide your chickens calcium and grit.. You don't have to feed them this, but it is an ideal solution to many calcium deficiency issues. Just have it available free choice. The chickens will take it at will. No worry that they will overdose on these cracked up oyster shells. A bag goes a long way and is fairly inexpensive.

Even if you only give your hens layer feed which has the scientifically calculated amount of calcium.. (4% ) Oyster shell are good to have free choice.

Welcome! It's a good idea to have crushed oyster shell in a separate feeder for your layers. If they need it, they will eat it, so safe insurance for them. If you feed a Flock Raiser type diet, the layers will eat more, and other birds will be fine. If you feed layer feed, less oyster shell will be eaten, also fine. mary
