So, the coop is almost set up. My daughter thinks the feeder should go inside the coop. Is that where it should go? The water will be outside in the run so that the inside won't get wet. We are trying to learn from others' experiences. Thanks in advance for the input!

I keep my feeder inside the coop.
I have lots of critters and dogs that would love to eat up the chicken feed, so it stays inside the coop.
My chickens free range, so I have lots of waterers outside the coop in various locations.

Hello and
welcome-byc.gif
from Southern PA!

I have only had chickens for two months, and we currently keep the food outside the coop. We take it in and lock it up every night, which is kind of a hassle, but we are concerned about mice.

I have noticed wild birds coming to the feeder as well. The chickens chase them away, but it definitely attracts them being outside.

We are strongly considering moving the food inside the coop when we complete our larger coop, and continuing to keep the water outside.

Thanks to you both. Mice and other birds eating the food is our concern, as well. The chickens will free-range when one of us is outside and the door to the run will be open so they can get water whenever they want. I imagine they will find the dogs' outside dish as well.
