Paint or ?? Chicken roosts

We use saplings or tree limbs, bark on, and have one that's a split rail, all just as they are. Some of our birds roost in the rafters, either old 4" fence posts, or 2"x8" framing, 2" side up. They have lots of choices, and prefer higher up if they can fly up that high.
It all works fine, nothing fancy.

Not really a good idea as the rope will be impossible to clean, can harbor pests and really has no viable purpose.
It's a luxury thing that feels better on their feet, I didn't rope wrap mine but I have also never had to clean the perches in my coop only the ones in my run. Also any nook and cranny can harbour pests so a mix of worm wood leaves, garlic crystals and lavender in their bedding keeps them away if you cant plant the plants close to your coop.
