I've started noticing some egg yolks are more pale than others. I don't know why though. They are all fed the same Non-Gmo laying mash, a scoopful of sunflower seeds each day and are allowed to free range from about noon to 8:00pm. Any ideas?

Generally yolk color has to do with diet. Most bagged rations have a source of carotenoids, like corn, alfalfa, marigolds, or grass meals which can give egg yolks a bright orange color. If feed degrades due to various causes like age, wetness, being too warm, or if it's exposed to air it can begin to breakdown. So generally when you are seeing pale yolks you should check your feed, and perhaps replace it.

Thank you for responding! Now that you mention it, I've not been giving them cracked corn because weevils got into it and I had to dump it. I've not had a chance to get more. Thank you!
