Advice desperately needed please. My duck eggs are now 1 full day overdue and with no sounds coming from the eggs I made the the decision to tentatively start to nip open one of them only to find a dead duckling. Fearing the worst I started opening another to find this one was a dud. I was now convinced the whole batch would be a dead loss so I proceeded to start opening another, removing a tiny section of shell and then the (white) outer membrane leaving the transparent inner membrane in tact. This time I cpould see a living duckling but the visible blood vessels are still quite red so I didn't go any further. So I have 4 eggs with what look like live ducklings inside but which aren't making any sound. How long more should I leave them before I intervene? I would really hate to lose them through inaction. Any advice would be very greatly appreciated, Thanks.

If you still see veining, they aren't "done" yet. If they are late it could be your temperature was a little low. Make sure the humidity is still up there.

Have you waited the full 28 days? Are you incubating Muscovies? What some people dont know is that Muscovies take 35 days instead of 28, which is normal for other ducks.

Temp changes can make things late- maybe it went down during the night a bit? Either way, don't toss them till 3-4 days, after a good candling

I usally wait 3-4 days after hatch due date, but if they are a little late as you mentioned, I will sometimes spray the eggs with a little misting spray bottle, just lightly don't drench them. sometimes they may be having problems due to humidity if its not high enough their membrane gets rubbery and it really hard for them to break it. How high is your humidity? Hope this helps, I do better with ducks than chicks...lol But give them time and a little spray it should help and

I wish you the best in hatching the rest.
