I cannot recall where I read about this, it could have been on this forum. My 4 year Black Australorp chicken girl has been gorging herself on cicadas (she is kind of a glutton) and then I think she ate some tough grass..she was having a hard time swallowing something down anyway and was gasping. She was all gassy and liquid filled...never a good thing! I think I caught it early, but I ran out right away to get a papaya and digestive enzymes (look for the enzymes with cellulose in them to break down plant material). I've had success 3 times with this method: just slice the fresh papaya in two, I take out the seeds because mine don't seem to not like them, then sprinkle a capsule of digestive enzymes on the fruit. My birds kind of liked it when I broke up the fruit a little with a spoon. I put one half inside the enclosure and half outdoors. I hand fed the laden papaya to the girl that needed it, until she got the hang of it herself. I came back to check and the papaya was scalped clean! This morning, my girl had a flat belly and was feeling hungry and frisky. It is so rewarding and a tremendous relief when something you do actually works! Maybe it will work for you too!

Wow that’s neat! I feel I’ve heard this also somewhere. Good to know it’s worked for someone. Thanks for sharing.
