I am thinking about using the DLM for my new coop. It is an 8 x 12 building without a floor in it. It is on skids so it is movable if we desire.

I have access to pine shavings and paper from the shredder at work. Can I use both? or is it better to use just one?

Also, where is a good place to buy the food grade DE?

My chickens are in a barn with a cement floor. I use both pine shavings and shredded paper, also deep litter method with DE. It isn't composting very well, but I just have to have a 2 year plan for my compost pile. The birds love it when I put new paper and shavings in the barn. I don't even spread it out. They do it for me. I also throw corn around for them every day, so they keep it stirred up.

You can buy DE at one of these sites:

I like the idea of letting the chicks spread it out, helps pay the rent.
