I’ve had 2 parakeets pass away. They were both on the door. My little guy in now running around on the floor and I’m really worried. I don’t want to loose any others. Is this normal at all?

I'm really sorry to hear that. Is it showing any other symptoms of being sick (fluffed up feathers, lethargy, weight loss, refusing food, discharge around eyes/nose/mouth, etc.)?

He doesn’t really seem to have anything else going on. The normal amount of fluffiness but that’s about it. He’s eating and drinking. He was rehomed to us about 5 days ago, she was just moving away.

If 2 have already died and you're concerned about the 3rd, I would see an avian vet asap. Birds hide illness until they physically can't anymore, and by that point they are already very sick or dying. If you suspect something is wrong it would be better to have a professional see him.

Thank you, I was just looking for some in my area. I’m not super duper worried but still watching him, so I will try to get him in this week.but I would like to get him in anyways for a checkup. The other one who passed was sick and the lady didn’t tell us about that. My other one, I’m not sure but the vets hung up on me when I tried to get him in. He’s not lethargic at all, very active but I still would like to get him. Thank you!

Yes, I definitely second that! My avian vet saved my budgie's life last year. He had to stay there for four nights, but came back much better than he was. He had to stay on antibiotics for two more weeks, but was completely fine after that. I can't stress the importance of avian vet visits enough. That's why I take my parrots for annual vet examinations.

All of my vets around me are 2 weeks out. I’m not sure what to do? Do you know if tis normal for them to be puffy? He is active and eating and drinking. Just puffy. He has also been putting his head behind his wing. I don’t know if that’s normal? There are so many things on the internet it’s hard to tell what’s up. They all have these different traits so at this point I don’t even know. He is eating all of his veggies, taking baths and playing around. We have only had him for about a week. He was rehomed to us

If he's puffy, that's probably a sign that something is wrong. Birds hide their illness, so if he's showing symptoms, that usually means they've been sick for a while and it could be too late. Other than taking him to a vet, I'm not sure what to suggest. Keep a close eye on him and keep him warm and dry.
