Parasite treatment and ash

I heard that wood ash is a good way to treat the flock for parasites (lices, mites etc). Is this true? Or it is another failed method?

Pure wood ash from a woodstove has been used for years to deter bugs. I use it in the runs where the girls dust bathe. It is an old remedy from farmers but it does work. When we empty our wood ash from the stove, I let it cool and add to the runs.

Might help a little in controlling numbers but is not going to cure an infestation.
