parasites, mites

I am reading more and more about chickens in general, but I can't find anything about "preventing mites, parasites". I have had a few old timers tell me to rake a little 7 dust in the sand pit I built for them. Another person said you should put something in the nest boxes too. I don't like the idea of putting this kind of stuff out there, but I want my chickens healthy also.

Seven dust is non toxic. I use it in coop nesting box and dusting holes. U can actually sprinkle on to birds they will shake it into feathers
