The other homeschooling threads are for children or specific religions. I figured we parents that follow general Neoplatonic principles (ie God is perfect, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent) could use our own thread for general homeschooling

To start, I'll share this perhaps controversial quote on the school system-

“Speaking of scholarly literature, you don’t learn anything in school. Not that you need a study for this. Teachers regularly mention how the students forget everything over the summer.

As with all interventions designed to raise IQ, school’s effect largely disappears within one year, and entirely disappears within three years.

How do you achieve a 12th-grade education? Skip every day of school until 18, then wait until 21. Bam, done. Cost to taxpayers: 0. Cost to student: around negative 15000 hours.

15000 * $15 min wage = $220,000.
Yeah if the government gypped me out of $200 grand I might want to go on a rampage too…

Not to mention that “stress” thing that seems to be relevant. Perhaps we could measure it in molarity-hours of cortisol.

Great way to stop all school shootings: shut down the schools.”

Need to begin covering fractions with my six year old daughter. She was talking to me last night about chicken breeding:

She wants a rooster that's half Indio Gigante, half Asil, half junglefowl, and half American game

Daughter has been sincerely enjoying studying the Sermon on the Mount and the Daodejing. Christ is one of the greatest Daoists I'm familiar with

She's getting very good at reading
