Chirping
So, we got home last night to a dog with a droopier than normal face. Did some research and found that it was probably Facial Nerve Paralysis, basically Bell’s Palsy for dogs. Just got back from the vet with confirmation on that. Though we actually managed to stump the doc with some of the other neurological stuff that is going on with our pit bull, Duke. He has some strange eye ticks. After blood work came back okay, and we ruled out tick-borne issues, our vet advised us that the best place to start is going on the assumption that a dog that has shown no other negative symptoms either has an ear infection or suffered some kind of trauma. We have some theories on potential causes of trauma, but nothing concrete and he did have some possible signs of an ear infection. But for now, we drug him up and wait.
Anyone have any experience with this?
The one positive, kind of, is that we already had an appointment today for our dachshund, Bear, because his snout and gums were swollen and I was worried he had an abscess tooth. Turns out, his was some sort of trauma too and a fading infection. My theory is that he managed to get over by the bird feeder and was eating seeds and one jabbed him or got stuck under his gum. Little side note with him though, we noticed something was up on Monday but couldn’t get an appointment until today (Thursday). So in the meantime, he got turmeric added to each meal, as well as a little bit of CBD oil. I also rubbed coconut oil on his gums. I don’t know if it helped, but it seemed like it did.
First picture is the paralyzed side, second is the good side.
