hi we recently lost one of our two khakis, we want to get the remaining one a new friend but we are concerned about
how she will react to it, she pretty much is with us all the time but looks so alone in the garden.
we want to know if any one has any experience of replacing a lost duck and if we will be better getting an older duck or a young one, we wanted to get another duckling of say a week old but how will she react.
any help please

I think it would be best to get another duck around same age and size. she may not take to a baby if she didn't hatch it. When you do get another duck keep them separated by temp fencing for about a week where they can be close but not touching this way they get to know each other with out your khaki wanting to pick on newbie. she will soon accept the new one it just takes time and patience. Duck do much better if they have one of their own kind with them. Once they have met and lived side by side for a while try letting them meet outside of fencing on neutral ground in back yard or where ever you keep them try some kind of treat they both like so they aren't focusing in on each other right off. See how it goes, they maybe come fast friends right off. I hope so. and very sorry for your loss.

Welcome!
